Grateful Rescue & Sanctuary in Muncie, Indiana, stepped up in a big way after a Dachshund rescue owner's sudden death in 2024.
Ann Davies operated BB Dachshund Sanctuary in Evansville, Indiana and died in early May 2024.
Ann Davies operated the BB Dachshund Sanctuary in Evansville and had 26 Dachshund dogs in her care. She died in early May and one of her final wishes was to find a fellow sanctuary to care for her precious dogs.
"Just before her passing, Ann called upon one of her dearest friends, Tammy Sue to help get these dogs into a good place. And Tammy called us", said Grateful Rescue Founder and President Pamela Terhune.
Ann's last words were “I’m going home to be with my babies,” but passed just minutes after those words were spoken.
Grateful Rescue rented 2 vans and gathered a group of volunteers to bring the dogs to the Muncie Sanctuary.
"We feel it’s very important since we were called upon and in honor of Anne’s life, to put these dogs in safe and loving homes with the least amount of stress in the transition", said Terhune.
"She loved these dogs so much. I also know these dogs loved her and are mourning too. They lost their mama!! So keeping them all together to comfort one another during this transition is a vital part of these pups’ emotional recovery, said Terhune.
All of the precious Dachshunds were eventually adopted and found loving homes.
Grateful Rescue and Sanctuary is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that takes in homeless animals and provides rehabilitation, adoption and foster programs to place animals we receive.
Grateful Rescue is currently being operated off of Terhune’s 22 acre private property, but they are on a capital campaign to expand and build on an additional 38 acres. They have recently acquired. More details at gratefulrescue.org.
